nemonclature: Abed looking seriously into camera (for srs)

Not that I'm an authority on fandom or anything, but I find I'm really impressed with how Captain Cold's mixed ethnicity is casually mentioned in fics, so that Wentworth Miller's actual mixed heritage isn't just white-washed. I don't recall anyone ever bothering with that in Prison Break fic, and that's not a reflection on the authors, but a reflection of fandom's changing priorities I think, and it's a change that's really satisfying and comforting.

By the by, I think the reason Miller wears his hair short is because TPTB are afraid to have overtly African hair on their passing-for-white character. Which just goes to show how far behind fandom actual tv land is.

In other news - I started rewatching s2 Prison Break, because Michael/Mahone basically. And then I watched all the Captain Cold eps of the Flash and now I discover that Legends of Tomorrow is a series not a movie, so I guess I'll be watching that too.

Also, would you believe Miller is 43? I mean seriously.

It's amazing that he's 43.

Hmmm. That's true although I would say that fandom whitewashes Michael - Aldo Burrows is white, and we see him in s1. Although I don't think we see their Mum until s4. So I guess fandom did make some big assumptions that could have been questioned.

So I think the possibility for whitewashing was just as there in PB (pre-his mum turning up in s4).

That's a very good point.

But also Miller wasn't as well known when PB started, I mean, I didn't know he was mixed when I started watching/reading fic, so yeah, it was an assumption, but I get why it happpened.

That might be a little of it too -- more awareness of actors. I mean, I see a lot of bleed-over between actors and characters happening in fic these days (little fanon things that the actor does that becomes written about as the character).

I'm just really impressed that when fandom has a chance to get it right, they've jumped at it.

Actually, yes. It's great to see fandom do something right.

LOL, this is actually hilarious, because that's precisely what I've been doing - except I re-watched PB from the start since the first time I stopped in early S2 and never really saw the glorious slashiness that was Michael/Mahone in action and now I just wrapped up S3 with Sona and all the eye-fucking and the wall!porn.

My watching the Captain Cold eps of The Flash was (at least consciously?) not because of Wentworth Miller but because I randomly read a Flash/Cold fic and fell in love with the ship, and then I wanted to see them in action. I don't think I'll actually be watching The Flash regularly, or Legends of Tomorrow, but the fic does make me happy. :D
