And a vid to tail this all off with:

Broken Crown vid by almostgaby: OMFG. WHY ARE YOU MAKING ME CRY? I don't usually go for Thor/Loki, but provided I can see it as familial/gen. Then I am THERE. (On that note, where the fuck is the 'Somebody that I used to know' Thor/Loki vid? BECAUSE EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT SONG IS THEM.)

I don't really get the point of omega verse AUs. )

Shake it Out by Elandria Lore (Teen Wolf: Lydia)
I would like for this to happen. That's another thing about HBIC Lydia, it just skips over the bit where she has to deal with al the fucked up shit S2 put her through and actually, I quite like trauma fics.

Moves by [livejournal.com profile] sisabet (Teen Wolf: Stiles)
Aw Stiles

[tumblr.com profile] askmisspotts - So I went and asked a whole bunch of 'Dear Miss Potts...' questions. Because all questions should be asked politely, guys. (Mwahaha and someone seems to have copied my format. I shall spread stealth politeness through the entire interwebs. Mwahahaaaaa!)

Thor: The Dark World trailer
Basically just waiting for the Loki bit at the end. AH HIS HAIR. IT WAS DOWN, AND HE WAS WEARING A SHIRT AND HE LOOKS SO ADORABLE OMFG. And like, there are other people in this movie. OH OH ONE OF WHOM IS DARCY. FUCK YEAH. WHO APPEARED MORE THAN ONCE IN THE TRAILER, DAMN RIGHT SHE DID.

Teardrops by [livejournal.com profile] almostgaby (Inception: Mal/ensemble)
Why couldn't we have had this movie? The movie about Mal, who drew them in, who was the centre of all their worlds, who brought them all together then lost herself. (Feathers on my Breath by [livejournal.com profile] ifeelbetter is a wonderful, atmospheric fic written for the vid.)

BRB. CRYING NOW.

Defiance pilot

Spoilers under the cut )

So, my overall opinion, it looks good, but lacks substance. I'm willing to hold out, because early eps are often so, so shit. And pilots are always about the big battle bullshit. Honestly though, I love scifi, and I'm willing to forgive a lot provided I'm given aliens and/or spaceships.

Watched Waitress again. Loved it, so entirely women's pov, women's stories. Tough issues with a light and slightly surreal touch. Only nitpick is spoilers )

I've been listening to Just A Minute recently, and I was thinking about comedians and how doing a show like that is mostly about being quick-witted. It's all banter, you know? Hearing something, saying something sharp or funny or sarcastic without really having any time to think about it.

And then I started thinking about the Avengers Theatre AU and the Loki problem. I mean, flyting is basically a war of banter and 'your mum' jokes. Only with slightly more entrails and torture.

So, Loki the comedian. A comedian hired to be the villain in the panto, so we still get the villain thing.

I'm actually going to have to write this now aren't I?

I'm Glad You Came by shadowhisper

NOW I HAVE RUMBELLE FEELINGS ALL OVER AGAIN. EVEN STRONGERER THAN BEFORE.

GAH. I didn't even. That wasn't supposed to happen. Now I'm going to have to start watching it properly.

Revenge -- I finally finished watching the last few eps of season one

JUST STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE AND DO NOT DO ANYTHING REVENGE-Y UNTIL I GET THERE. )

Worst way to find out your series has started its new season... SPOILERS ON FUCKING TUMBLR. MY EYES.THEY BURN.

Just putting this out there - I legitimately want a dreamatorium. No seriously, I'm not kidding. I want one.

The City and the City was absolutely fucking epic. It was amazing, I loved it. While the setting was far and away the best part, the plot was a solid crime drama, the main character was compelling and the sides were interesting.

As for Embassytown, the language elements were very interesting. The plot twisted in an unexpected way, but ultimately it didn't grab me in the same way The City did. I'm not sure I can pinpoint why, probably just that I found The City so compelling a setting, my expectations were perhaps too high?

I stand by what I said re-dictionary swallowing. Bloody Hell.

[Spoilers for The City] )

OMG

Was watching In the Bullpen by genusshrike (Natasha vid) which may well be the best thing since sliced bread, but then I see that scene near the end with Clint staring holes in Loki's head and Loki's eyeflick and then NATASHA WHISPERING SOMETHING IN CLINT'S EAR, AND HIS SHIT-EATING GRIN. And omg the amount of fucked up denial and fronting and PTSD fuckery in that threesome. YES FUCKING PLEASE. NATASHA CLINT AND LOKI TRAPPED IN A CAVE. BRING IT.

SFX in Brokeback mountain. (Also known as that CG sheep movie?)

Attack the block, from [livejournal.com profile] slippery_fish's rec. DUUUUUUUDE. IT LOOKS EPIC.

And there is The Sound of my Voice which looks like creepy, trippy fun.

Also, can I just get a plug in here for BSG: Blood and Chrome. IDK where it's being stalled exactly, most likely reason seems to be CGI costs money, but either way it' stuck between tv and webseries limbo and IT IS TOO AWESOME FOR THAT. I WANT IT NOW.

I spent the past however many hours on TVTropes, because, um, reasons. I ended up reading the SGU pages. It never fails to amuse me how people expect all fans to divide into the 'Young camp' or the 'Rush camp'.

Oh no no, guys. United we stand.

Also, did you know Greer used to voice Gerald from Hey Arnold? I literally did an 'OMG! NO WAI!' At the screen.

Also, also these crowning moments of funny mostly make me want to cry. OH SHOW, ♥ forever.

Seven Times Logan Echolls Went To Jail by sowell, Logan/Veronica -- God they're a fucking train crash. I love them.

For some reason I stopped following Dorothy Surrenders, I really don't know why. Anyway, I've been catching up, and this is very true. I think an L-word rewatch is on the books.

nemonclature: Daria looking unamused (Default)
Late entry to the trailer post - The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, on [personal profile] china_shop's rec. It has the entire theatre set in, I think it's only missing Gambon and really, I don't miss him at all. (I may have transferred all my Dumbledore-hate onto his shoulders but whatever.) Dev Patel is tall and awkward and gangly and sort of hot in a way that bothers me because isn't he 16 or something?

I listened to the Farscape theme tune and I almost DIED. I need to rewatch that show like burning.

I hate POC extras. They feel like a spit in the face: 'Oh these people are here too, they have stories as well, but pffff those stories aren't important enough for us to focus on. Of course not. Fuck off.'

I like to watch blooper reels, they're pretty much the only reason I go to youtube. Watch this at about 4:26 -- Dracula defeated by baby. Best thing ever. Also it makes me want all the Blade: Trinity fic again, and I have to watch everything with Parker Posey in. ALSO I totally forgot Leoben was in it. I watched some Due South outtakes after reading a Ray/Fraser fic. They were funny. Leoben was adorable, it almost makes me want to watch the show. The Scream 4 ones are funny too, they mostly consist of people jumping out from behind doors in the scream get up. Also here's some Farscape ones since I mentioned it above.

Did you know 'puddle-jumper' is an actual term for light aircraft? I thought it was completely a Stargate thing.

You know what would be awesome? Coming Out balls. They could schedule them on Pride and everyone could dress up and dance and it'd all be fabulous.

I don't mean the generic Pride parties that they slap the words 'Coming Out' on in a lazy attempt at a pun. You'd have to be introduced to people, and be asked to dance, and it'd all be waltzes and cotillons and all that jazz. Except not jazz.

Um I guess it still wouldn't really be a very good way to come out, but whatever, I just want a chance to recreate my own personal gay Regency world. Honestly now, who hasn't had that desire at some point in their lives?

Fic summaries are the worst things. Not only are they a raging pain to write, they're just as irritating to read.

- An italicised cut off sentence that tells me...
- "A completely unhelpful excerpt that does at least give me some idea of the writer's style albeit nothing of the plot."
- A vague statement that tells me who and maybe where but very little of the what.

But I do recognise how difficult it is, once you've been so immersed in your fic, to pull out and try and define what exactly happened. What counts as spoiler and what are the most important bits and, fuck it, why can't they just read the damn thing and find out that way?

Dramarama.

I wrote a grand total of fuck all today. Very fail. I've signed up for three separate challenges (because I hate myself, clearly). One I wrote some for but now can't face continuing. One has imploded in a a fiery fit of FML, this plot bunny is made of suck, and the last I'm now afraid to start because it has plot and I'm worried it'll make like the FML suck bunny of fire and death and awful terribleness.

So instead have random unrelated things I have been doing to distract myself:

I made this for dinner. I now have enough to feed a small army. (Well, fine. A very small army. Of four.)

Cooking blather )

I'm reading The Journey of the Soul: The story of Hai bin Yaqzan by Ibn Tufail which is an allegorical tale that follows the life of Hai bin Yaqzan, and talks about, variously: the path towards enlightenment; enlightenment thorugh spiritual experience vs enlightenment through knowledge; society vs solitude; religion vs spirituality; and the scientific method.

It's all fairly interesting stuff. Just... not exactly my kind of stuff. I'll review properly it when I'm done, but for now, I quite liked this bit:

"If the universe is an event, it must have a cause and if it had a cause, why did it act when it did and not earlier? Was there something which influenced the cause? But if there was nothing except the cause, how could anything influence it? Was the explanation simply that the cause had experienced a change in its essence? But if so, there must have been a cause that caused this change."

... And then his head exploded.

Question: Why are those ubiquitious table lamps always green and always in the same design? )

Silly Bang Bang movies starring impossibly thin women in black leather pantsuits: )
nemonclature: Daria looking unamused (mmm tv)
AM SO WATCHING THIS: Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol -- I KNOW. Scientology man, but it's Mission Impossible. Can't not. ALSO just going by that one line in the trailer:

"Who are you really?"
"We all have our secrets, don't we Ethan."

I'm totally headcanoning that Hawkeye IS LITERALLY HAWKEYE in this, only undercover. EPIC CROSSOVER WIN.

The Heir Apparent Largo Winch -- Looks like silly fun, in French, which makes a change. (Partly in French, whatever). And Kristen Scott Thomas is DIVINE. (Yes, she merits that word, her and Cate Blanchett have copyrighted it). So may watch just for her. BUT doesn't Largo remind you of Richard Coyle - as in Jeff from Coupling? (Now that I would pay to watch.)

Underworld Awakening. -- YAY VAMPIRES. You know I don't think I ever bothered with the prequel. I'll have to dig it up and then do a marathon. What happened to her love interest? Too monstrous and blue? See this is the problem with werewolves. They just aren't sexy. Sorry Teen Wolf. Human form? Sure. Man-wolf form? No thank you.

Snow White and the Huntsman -- FFFF. Stardust rip off. Hancock's immortal gf hires Thor to bring back the heart of Bella Swan. LOL FOREVER. And WOW that was an unbelievably laboured fake!English accent at the beginning of the voice over. May have to watch it just for that (then bandage my bleeding ears). And from what little I got from the trailer, Thor has a terrible accent going on as well. Joy. I wonder if they made KStew do the same, since all she does in the trailer is run around looking pretty/scared/determined.

Like Crazy -- I think the last overtly romantic movie I watched was 500 days of Summer. This looks more straightforward. Also looks like the kind of movie that'll make me want to slit my wrists if I watch it alone and single as ever as always (oh God). So yeah, put that on the back burner shall we? In other news, Felicity Jones could be Rebekah's brunette sister. They've got the whole petite, big limpid eyes, pointy face, pale skin thing going on.

Safehouse -- OOOOH. I love Ryan Reynolds. I just do. I saw him in, Blade 3? And he was hilarious in a shitty film, And then he was in Definitely Maybe and he was sweet, and he was fun in Smokin' Aces as well. I realise he's made a bunch of shitty movies but I DON'T CARE. I like him. And Denzel Washington is Denzel Washington and he's always watchable. Also this looks SLASHORIFIC. And it's got moral!ambiguity!kink going on. So. YES PLEASE. BRAINLESS SLASHY KINK? I AM SO IN THERE. Though I gotta ask, isn't this basically Training Day? Only with CIA people instead of cops?

Albert Nobbs -- Could be interesting, depends on how they play it. Is she crossdressing just for work or because it feels natural? Is it something she grew into or always wanted to do? Is she in love with Wasikowska or just doing what is expected? Is it even crossdressing? Is she even a she? I'm not saying they have to answer the questions, but they have to recognise they're there to be asked. I Haven't seen Glenn Close in much but she's got a good rep, right? Might give it a go. Though the accents sound a bit... top o' the mornin' to yeh... O_o

Coriolanus -- Hmmm IDK, Ralph Fiennes can be good. But I saw Chromophobia that had a whole bunch of epic people in it and it was written and directed by his sister, and it was the most godawful prolonged session of upper middle class navel-gazing I have ever watched. Not that I expect this to be navel gazing what with Shakespeare and all. But I could see it being pretentious and back-slappy. Particularly considering the modern AU. (I swear, Shakespeare is way ahead of the competition when it comes to modern AUs of his stuff. WAY AHEAD. What else is there? Bridget Jones?)

Chronicle

Could be fun. With caveat:

I feel like I need a tag for films where women only exist as 'the mum' or 'the girlfriend'. Female characters free standing and important in their own right? PFF NO. THE WIMMINZ only matter if they are defined by their relation to THE MENZ.

[world of girlfriends] maybe?
/made it.

The entire set up is one where there cannot be equality. It's not a matter of, 'the female characters don't do shit' it's a matter of, 'these characters are not the same as these other characters' -- The standards, the set up, the parameters, the everything, it's an entirely different scale we're marking them against.

It's like having a film about these people and some pets, whose defining characteristic is being owned by these people. You don't say, OH the dog had a big role or OH the dog had a great character, because it's a fucking dog, it's not a person, it doesn't work that way.

That's what these, [world of girlfriends] films do to women. It's not that the characters fall short, it's that they don't even get the chance to try. They're not in the fucking race. The makers/writers make a choice to rate male narratives above female, it's intrisnically sexist. No matter what happens in the film, there is no way for it to be equal.

It doesn't feel pointed, in that you don't get the icky, Christopher-Nolan-oh-god-stop-fridging-your-women, feeling. You just get that more insidious, I-have-been-erased-from-this-picture, feeling.

OH THANKS.

My week with Marilyn
IDK if I'll watch it, but Eddie Redmayne sure is pretty, (even if his lips freak me out a bit). Can we have more of these CHEEKBONES English boys please? Or just cast him and Hiddleston in everything ever, I'd settle for that.

The Iron Lady
Right, because there's such a lack of old white ENGLISH actresses. Not that I'll be watching it anyway, because fuck Maggie. But still it's the spirit of the thing. (Though from the trailer at least the accent sounds fine, so there is that I suppose).
nemonclature: Daria looking unamused (ooooooh)
In case it wasn't obvious. I may even work on the final DWTC chapter it's that bad. (EGAD THAT FIC. I WANT IT GONE.). I also have eleventy billion Maddy Bowen icons (from Blood Diamond) to post, since I made them for her RP journal (seriously, eleventy billion, I was a bit trigger happy with the screencap button).

Ok, so do you ever get this thing where you get a soundtrack/music in your head? I don´t mean a tune stuck in your head, I mean, for example, when I'm making up stories, or daydreaming. I get a soundtrack in my head. If I focus too hard on it, it disappears into silence. Usually I don't notice it's there, but if I do, If I sort of half focus, like looking at something out of the corner of your eye, I can listen to it.

But I'm not consciously deciding what note comes next. I don't even decide what style/genre of music it is. It just seems to happen.

IT'S NOT WEIRD. I'M TOTALLY NORMAL. SHUTTUP.

I do intend to actually watch these, I'm not going to be a total hypocrite.  I just won't be spending any actual money on them, (except maybe the last... who am I kidding, not even the last, I am a MISER). Anyway, these were my thoughts when I saw the trailers.
