Pride & Prejudice and Zombies.

It was actually exactly what I needed. Ladies in pretty dresses stabbing things, fighting zombies and rescuing men. The entire thing was insane, plot doesn't hold up worth a damn, but it was fun and tongue in cheek and sort of comforting, in a ridiculous, bloody sort of way.

Cut for spoilers ... do P&P spoilers even count nowadays? )

Oh, also? Darcy's greatcoat is made of leather. Yeah.

It really made me want a Temeraire movie/tv series - for that, Regency AU feel, plus awesome women and a critique of Britain's colonial history. Talk about high concept. Napoleonic wars, with dragons. Why has no one made that yet?

I was thinking about that fic I recced a few posts back, where I assumed the narrator was female. Because I was reading articles and I repeatedly assumed female, and had to recalibrate when I realised 'my wife' meant 'I am a het man' not 'I am a lesbian'. Or when the author mentions his kids calling him Daddy (wait, what? who the fuck is dad- OH. RIGHT). I AUTOMATICALLY assume EVERYONE on the internet is female. Not just in fandom. EVERYONE. I don't even think about it. And then K is like. LOL that meme, "There are no girls on the internet" and I'm like. WHAT? WHAT WORLD DO YOU LIVE IN?

I find I'm looking for the reblog button when I'm scrolling through my DW flist. GDI TUMBLR. YOU RUINED ME.

Between the new Veronica Mars trailer and the Loki thing?* I am gonna go to Comic Con one day. It's gonna happen. It's gonna be THE SHIT.

*(watching that gives me both intense squee/shivery feelings and embarrassment squick. IDEK).

True Blood... um. recent episodes. 5 and 6?

Other things also happened. )

Orange is the new black.

I always expect so much violence rape and murder from prison shows or films. It weirds me out when you see mostly people getting on with their lives. To be fair, it's clearly a way lower security prison than the ones in Prison Break or Oz, (presumably? haven't actually seen Oz). or any of the movies I've seen.

I mean, there's prison wives and scary in charge people. But it's mostly used to keep referencing Piper's past girlfriend/lesbianism. In fact, mostly just so they can bring up lesbianism in every ep. I can't work out if this is a good thing or not. I think my final opinion will depend greatly on whether she ditches Mr American Pie and goes for the ex-girlfriend.

Anyway, it's an amusing set up and interesting enough characters.

Here are some as I watch reactions (for the whole season - spoilers) )

Watched Pacific Rim to see what the fuss was about. )

Ramadan's started, so I've been staying up 'till Suhur instead of going to sleep and waking up again, and in order to stay up, I have been watching a loooot of tv.

IDK if I already posted this : Orphan Black reviews. by 12_12_12 - Awesome because [personal profile] 12_12_12 IS ALWAYS AWESOME, but also relevant to the post I made a while back about Loki and parentage issues AND my issues with OUaT and parentage, because Orphan Black is a show that manages to do parentage issues pretty well. (apart from the [spoiler] )
Pitch Perfect. )

I have singing classes on Tues at the local school, and when I'm waiting before class I do a bit of link finding for metanews. Only the school internet firewall blocks certain sites. You know, those awful porny, bad for kids sites... like livejournal ("blog/social interaction") or AO3 ("offensive and tasteless"), but apparently that tumblr that's full of dick pics is ok.

Fashion dance vid thing. It's awesome, just click.

Just read a fic where Stiles doesn't know how to make a cup of tea. The fuck? It's not fucking rocket science. How the fuck do you lose a teabag in a mug?

Trance really annoyed me )

Stoker - Pretty much as I expected. Gorgeous visually and very fucked up.

spoilers )

13 going on 30

Nice enough. Some moments of embarrassment squick that meant I had to fast forward. Ruffalo is one of those guys who looks better as he gets older I think.

Beautiful Creatures

It has the guy from Stoker in. Took me a while to place him. Plus all the British actors playing all the accent acrobatics. IDEK what that movie was. It was strangely enjoyable whilst watching, and at the same time utterly awful.

The Heat )

I skipped through The Internship for the Stiles scenes. )

Austenland - GIVE IT TO ME

7 Things your flight attendant wants you to know - (No 7.) I didn't know kids could still visit the cockpit (after landing). That makes me so happy! I was inordinately sad when I heard that wasn't a thing any more. I mean, I understood it, but it was still sad to hear. I remember going into the cockpit as a kid and being AMAZED. ALL THE BUTTONS. SO MANY BUTTONS. THE COOLEST FLYING MACHINE IN THE WORLD.

Spiderman playing basketball with local kids between takes - NGL part of me is thinking, hmm, clever marketing, guys. But most of me is just. SPIDERMAN, YOU ARE THE HERO THAT GIVES ME THE MOST NORMAL PEOPLE FEELS. Like, the train scene? The crane scene? Ugh. Just stop.

Common Law Gag Reel - STUPID DANCING. [personal profile] theoret . FOR YOUR VID. WHY WAS THIS SHOW CANCELLED???? WHYYYYYY?

Orphan Black (S1 spoilers) )

After Earth )

Ultimately I was spoiled for the main thing I knew I'd hate. The other things I disliked were mostly ignorable and though they take up space here, in terms of how many watching minutes were devoted to them? They were outnumbered by the fun, positive elements. I just find it easier to talk about and take apart the things that I didn't like than the things I did. I'M SORRY GUYS. THE GLASS IS HALF EMPTY. Overall, like, watch it? For sure. Have fun. But the thing you know you'll hate. Yeah. You gonna hate.

The good, the bad and the ugly. Spoilers under the cut )
nemonclature: Raylan biting his lip, text: um (Um)
Anyone know anything about this Item 47 movie? Is it basically a way of getting people into watching SHIELD? (Not that we need any more encouragement). Also, am I wrong with the whole Benny and Claire/Bonnie and Clyde thing? I really liked the actress since Mean Girls and True Blood so I hope they keep them both somehow. Maybe in the tv show? (And he's the guy in Bring It On y/y? AH those were the days).

Looking at more Marvel extras: The Loki/Hawkeye deleted scene from Avengers - Firstly, that look up at 1:20? So deliberate and so wonderful. I could just EAT HIM. ALL OF HIM. (In a non creepy cannibal way. GDI HANNIBAL. YOU SCREW UP EVERYTHING.)

But also, the eyeball? That horrible, disgusting trick Loki pulled? Totally Hawkeye's idea.

Where is the fic that delves into all Clint's pain? HE MUST HAVE SO MUCH PAIN. SO FUCKING MUCH.

Also, I did not realise the whole Maria Hill kinda hates Nick Fury vibe they were going for. The alternate opening makes it more obvious, but rewatching Avengers just now, (which is an exercise in heartache btw. I just want to shout at the screen. NO LOKI. WHAT ARE YOU DOING? STOP IT. GET SOME THERAPY. BUY SOME ICECREAM. SOMEONE TELL THOR TO GIVE HIM A HUG. FFS.) and she's kinda pissed off at him from the get go. IS THERE GOING TO BE A SUDDEN BUT INEVITABLE BETRAYAL. BY A WOMAN. ZOMG HOW FUCKING GROUNDBREAKING. If they tie the creepy old white guys council into Avengers 2 by having Maria Hill turn.

Iron Man 3 reaction:
STOP! Spoiler time... )

The Tempest review )

Watched the Anne Lister documentary with Sue Perkins. Perkins is funny. All I really know her from isJust a Minuteand she does come across as a bit smug there. Sort of, playing it for points not the funnies. But she was pretty good in this. I mean, they're doing the usual modern documentary thing of having the presenter be about a 1/4 involved and the 3/4s on the actual historic person. It can come across less like 'queer people through the ages' and more 'LOLOL lesbians talking about lesbians'. But only a little. And anyway, the historical facts were all fascinating.

NGL though I want to know more about half-Indian bastard Eliza. The poor discarded first love.

So, this recent news about the three girls kept in a house for ten years. (I'm not linking because it's fucking sick, but if you google Amanda Berry you'll probably find it)

I'm already not watching The Following because this is a thing I do sometimes. Stop watching all my shows. (Oh hello Vikings, I haven't seen you in a month)

But I don't think I want to go back to it. I don't want to to root for the men who keep women in cages. I don't want to to be so inured to such hideous, life shattering violence against women that I don't even see those TV victims as people. Just obstacles

I don't want to to be part of the culture that thinks it's okay to desensitise us to this shit. That teaches us to to see these women, not as people but as windows dressing. And I'm not going to suddenly stop loving the creepy cop/killer dynamic. But I've had it to here with all the fucking baggage that goes with it.

"I think that's a really creepy pairing... but hey, read what you like."

NO NO NO. Those are not two phrases that taste great together. It's either one or t'other. You are absolutely allowed to say you think something is creepy. Hannibal/Will? HELLA CREEPY. IN CASE I HAVE NOT MADE THIS OBVIOUS. THERE IS PEOPLE EATING. AND A DEER THAT I THOUGHT WAS A MOOSE BECAUSE APPARENTLY I CAN'T ANIMAL.

But you can't append that with 'but hey if you like it fine, (you weirdo). Because the 'you weirdo' will always be implied because you just said it was creepy and didn't allow enough space for the tone of your argument to shift from OMG YUCK! to HEY ALL KINKS ARE AWESOME!

Just say them separately. Space them out. Let one exist and then the other.

GUYS. SHUTTUP. THIS IS A THING THAT MAKES SENSE. DON'T TELL ME I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO DOESN'T GET PISSED OFF BY THIS. I get far more pissed off by this backing and forthing than people outright saying my shipping preferences squick them out. I kinda get off on that shit. You think Young/Rush is the absolute pits? You think Wincest is goddamn disgusting? You can't stand creepy Harry/Snape non-con chan?

HAHAHA sucks to be you.

That shit rolls of my back. This shit is passive aggressive.

(Disclaimer, yes I've probably done exactly this in that past. Whatever. I win at hypocrisy.)

Do you think, if there was an alien invasion, fandom would get online and update people. Like, warn people. "Yes, this shit is going down in my corner of the world as well."

Do you think you'd contact all those random people you have in your gchat contacts who you emailed once when you were 17 and never spoke to again?

If they looked and sounded human, do you think you'd guess it was an alien invasion as oppose to some sort of spectacularly organised military coup. Or IDK, terrorist coup. It's not really terrorist modus operandi, to try and take over the world.

What would be the most efficient way of colonising an entire planet? Take out the military I guess. I mean, setting aside any sort of mind-control equipment because that's cheating. Maybe some sort of subversive behind the scenes replacing of the political leaders would be better? Rather less exciting narrative-wise if we're conducting a Mary Sue fantasy/'What to do in case of Alien Invasion' primer. I mean, I can't really get involved with the replacement of the PM, but aliens landing in the field? That I can do.

The problem with alien invasion scenarios is that they're so diverse. It's not like the Zombie Apocalypse, I am so ready for that.

Welcome to the Punch )

I didn't watch tv for weeks and then I caught up on a month's worth a weekend ago. I'm probably behind again now. Anyway, quick catch up:

The Following, Justified, The Good Wife, The Mentalist, Xena, Lost Girl, Vikings )

Not at all the silly actioner I was expecting from the trailer and the synopsis. This shit is fucking epic. Even A liked it, and he's like, the queen of Judgey McJudgeyness. Especially for time-travel.

I will never doubt Rian Johnson again. This man is the shit. He's the new Terry Gilliam. Go forth and worship.

Pushing Tin, Bourne Legacy, Batman, Spiderman )

More thoughts about Natasha - )

Prometheus pre-quel. This is hilarious guys, you have no idea.

Teen Wolf/P&P fusion vid trailer. LOL FOREVERER. On a related note, is Sterek just a tease? I've read the meta, but I'm not convinced. Trusting a show to make a slash ship reality just seems so very impossible.

Also also, I'm only half way through S2 so DON'T SPOIL ME.

Legend of Korra (spoilers) )

Completely random webcomic rec -- This is utterly gorgeous. A very nifty idea. It's a short comic about an illustrator and his attempts to escape his editor. It uses folds and light and angles to create a 3D effect with just paper and pencil. Quite short. Worth a look.

Natasha/Clint and thoughts. )

Justified question

Is Tim canonically gay? Is that too progressive for Justified? Is it fanon? Because I realised I was basically accepting it as fact in all Tim eps and IDK where exactly I got it from. It just seems like a thing that makes sense.

And on a completley different note, I found a couple of old posts where requireshate absolutely eviscerates Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series (here and here).

Yes, they are that awful, they're my terrible, bottom drawer, id-fic, shameful love, but they really are awful.

...And I have this collection of really random bits and pieces saved up to post. So, brain-splurge:

I thought I'd already posted these ages ago, but apparently not. Just shows how sharp my memory is.

I finally saw The Avengers! Woop woop!

Mostly I loved it. Silly Bang Bang, all the feels etc. I don't know that I have anything to say that hasn't already been said, but here goes:

Likes, Dislikes and Fics I want. Full o' spoilers. )

I saw The Hunger Games just before I left Barcelona, and I'd meant to get this post up earlier but whatever. THE LINKAGE? GALE BETTER PLAY BALDR IN THOR 2. THEN LOKI WILL KILL HIM AND SHIT WILL GO DOWN.

Spoiler review, a couple of fic recs and some interview links. )
